At the initiative of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal, deep submergence vessels Mir-1 and Mir-2 have been displayed at the exposition of the 6th Baikal International Economic Forum (BEF) in front of the main official event pavilion. The Forum’s Russian and foreign participants have an opportunity to inspect the legendary submersibles that have been furrowing the waters of Lake Baikal in the “Mirs on the Baikal” Scientific Research Expedition during the last three years.
A presentation of the “Mirs on the Baikal” expedition project was made on the BEF official opening day by Chairman of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation S.M. Mironov, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal M.V. Slipenchuk, Governor of the Irkutsk Region D.F. Mezentsev, and Chairman of the Fund’s Technical Council, Head of Laboratory of Shirshov Oceanology Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Hero of Russia A.M. Sagalevich, who answered questions from journalists on the completed research dives.
