The Film To the Depth of Baikal by Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal at the Cinema Festival H2O: Baikal

On 12 September 2011, the Fund showed its documentary To the Depth of Baikal at the Nature Film Festival H2O: Baikal. The Festival is dedicated to anthropogenic impact on the environment and presents the best recent documentaries, many of which have received international awards.

The film by the Fund was presented in the IFFF Short Films Program and was received by the audience with delight. Ulan-Ude citizens enjoyed underwater views of singular beauty shot from the Mir submersibles, picturesque Baikal scenery, learned about sensational findings and found answers to some mysteries of history.

The Fund’s film To The Depth of Baikal created at the All-Russia State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company is about the famous Lake Baikal and the Mirs at Baikal International Expedition. The main subjects of the documentary are the planet’s deepest fresh-water lake and the Baikal hydronauts, the members of the expedition.

During comprehensive scientific expedition held in 2008-2010 by the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal the manned submersibles Mir-1 and Mir-2 studied the bottom of Lake Baikal for the first time in the history of exploration of the lake.
