Submersions of Mirs near the Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill

10.07.2010

The two craft take four representatives of the Federal Service for the Supervision of Natural Resource Usage (Rosprirodnadzor) on a submersion near the Baikal Pulp and Paper Mill.  The teams spend about two hours collecting water and sediment samples, and photographing and video recording the bedrock formations in the immediate surrounding of the mill.  The Mir manned submersibles work side by side at a depth of about 500 meters and a distance of about two kilometers off the shore.  The research results, including studies and samples, are forwarded to the environmental monitoring laboratory of Rosprirodnadzor.
