Fund Participates in All-Russia Congress of Geography Teachers

On October 28-29, the Lomonosov Moscow State University hosted the first All-Russia Congress of Geography Teachers since 1915. The Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal was a partner of the event. The Congress was organized by the Geography Faculty of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the Russian Geographical Society and the All-Russia Geography Teachers Association.

The Emergencies Minister, Chairman of the Russian Geographical Society S.K.Shoigu, the Rector of Moscow State University (MSU), member of the Academy of Sciences V.A. Sadovnichiy, the Dean of Geography Faculty of MSU and member of the Academy of Sciences N.S. Kasimov, the President of the Fund for Protection of the Lake Baikal, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Science A.N. Chilingarov, the Director of the Geography Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the member of the Russian Academy of Sciences V.M. Kotlyakov, the prominent Russian geographer and professor Maksakovsky took part in the opening ceremony of the Congress.

The congress was attended by over 600 geography teachers of general and specialized schools, specialists in geography teaching methods, directors of educational institutions, lecturers from universities, representatives of education authorities. The delegates exchanged experience of improving the modern geography teaching at schools and discussed the present and the future of the geographical science in general at plenary sessions and workshops at the Congress.

The representatives of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal demonstrated the documentary To the Depth of Baikal dedicated to the Mirs at Baikal International Expedition to the participants of the congress.

Delegates from various regions of Russia could learn more about the projects of the Fund and suggest ideas for cooperation in ecological education of the youth at the exhibition stand of the Fund for Protection of the Lake Baikal.
