FPLB took part in the celebration of the MSU Faculty of Geography jubilee

On 22 November 2013, a solemn meeting devoted to the 75th anniversary of the Faculty of Geography of the Lomonossov Moscow State University took place in Moscow. Support of events organization was made by the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal and personally by its Chairman of the Board of Trustees – a graduate of the Faculty of Geography in 1987, Head of the Department of environmental management, Professor M.Slipenchuk.

During the solemn meeting, which was attended by over 400 people, Faculty of Geography and its Dean N.Kasimov were congratulated by Rector of Moscow State University V.Sadovnichiy, Director of the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, academician V.Kotlyakov, cosmonaut, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, Corresponding Member of the RAS V.Savinykh, deans of other faculties, Russian and foreign scientists.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the presentation of the second volume of the book “History of geography at the Moscow University”, which was introduced by its author, the oldest faculty member Y.Simonov. This publication was edited also with the support of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal and M.Slipenchuk.

In the foyer of the MSU House of Culture the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal presented a photo exhibition on their environmental activity and the expedition projects on Lake Baikal jointly with the Faculty of Geography of the Moscow State University.

The meeting was conducted by Dean of the Faculty of Geography N.Kasimov and Dean Deputy S.Dobrolyubov
