MSU students cleaned up the coast of the Baikal resort

On 13 August the scientific expedition participants of the Faculty of Geography of Lomonossov Moscow State University together with the volunteers of the Baikal shore service took part in the environmental campaign, launched in one of the most popular resorts in Trans-Baikal - Goryachinsk.

During the campaign unauthorized dump, located hundred meters from the shore of Lake Baikal was eliminated. 137 bags of glass, plastic, tin and other waste, left behind by “wild” tourists and locals, were gathered.

Baikal shore service, consisting of volunteers who came from different cities of Russia and other countries of the world, launched for the first time its activity in the Baikal region of Buryatia. For a month it cleaned more than 20 km of shoreline in the protected areas “Recreation Site “Cape Bezymyanniy” and the resort village Goryachinsk. Organizational and financial supports to the work of volunteers were made by the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal.

The participation in volunteer service became a part of a comprehensive scientific expedition of the Faculty of Geography of Lomonossov Moscow State University where the students and staff of the departments of environmental management, soil geochemistry, landscape science and physical geography of the world took part.
