FPLB made a presentation at the RGS Media-club

On 31 May a meeting of Media Club, during which the RGO expeditionary projects to be implemented in 2013 were presented to the representatives of the federal media, took place at Russian Geographical Society.
Among the presented project – International Swiss-Russian research expedition “Trans-Eurasian flight Leman – Baikal”. One of the expedition organizers is the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal with the support of the Russian Geographical Society.
The current project aroused great interest among the assembled journalists. After the presentation deputy director of the FPLB Inna Krylova answered on their questions.

International Swiss-Russian research expedition “Trans-Eurasian flight Leman – Baikal”
is organized on the initiative of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal (FPLB) and Research Foundation of Lake Leman (eLEMO) with support of the Russian Geographic Society, Faculty of Geography of the Lomonossov Moscow State University, Pan-Russian Nature Conservation Society, Group “METROPOL” and International Center Ferring Pharmaceuticals.
The scientific program of the expedition was prepared with the participation of leading scientific institutions of Russia, France and Switzerland.
This expedition - is a unique new project, during which comprehensive researches will be carried out using ultralight aircrafts (trikes).

The first stage of the expedition started on the shores of Lake Geneva on May 17, 2013. Then the route passed through Central and Eastern Europe: Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovakia, Poland, and Estonia.

The second stage of the expedition will start on June 14, 2013 in Pskov.The route will pass through Russian cities. In July - August 2013 large-scale comprehensive study of Lake Baikal, the Selenga River delta and the Baikal region will take place.
The total length of the route of the expedition – 9000 km.

The objectives of the expedition:
- Development of new methods and devices for sensing of the atmosphere and the water surface
- Increased knowledge of the effects of forest fires on the carbon cycle
- Preparation of proposals for integrated environmental protection measures along the route of the expedition
- Raising public awareness of environmental issues single natural areas of Europe and Asia
