Representatives of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal Honoured With State Awards of Mongolia

On October 12, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Russian Federation Doloonjin Idevkhten honoured Anatoly Sagalevich, the Chairman of the Technical Board of the Fund for Protection of the Lake Baikal, and Roman Afonin, the Executive Director of the Fund, with State Awards of Mongolia.

Anatoly Sagalevich was awarded with the Order of the Polar Star for accomplishments in enhancement of friendship and cooperation between Russia and Mongolia. The ambassador paid special regard to the contribution of Anatoly Sagalevich in organising and conducting the three-year-long Mirs At Baikal Expedition. The Chairman of the Technical Board of the Fund gave the ambassador Doloonjin Idevkhten a picture of the Mis submersible used for submersion of the President of Mongolia Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj in 2010.

The Executive Director of the Fund Roman Afonin was awarded with the Medal of Friendship for contribution in development and enhancement of friendship between the Russian and Mongolian people. The obverse side of the medal bears a central relief of a handshake with Najramdal (Friendship) written in semicircle above it.

The Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal works closely with scientific and cultural organisations of Mongolia in terms of the study and protection of Lake Baikal. In May 2010, the Baikal as the World Heritage Conference was held in the Russian Scientific and Cultural Centre in Ulan-Bator. Leading Russian and Mongolian scientists took part in this conference where they could enjoy a presentation of the most important discoveries of the Mirs at Baikal Expedition which was organised by the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal in 2008-2010.
