The Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal to organize the Day of Lake Baikal in Ulan-Ude

Celebration of the Day of Lake Baikal will be held on September 3 at the Square of the Soviets, the central square of Ulan-Ude –. The Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal and the Ministry of Natural Resources of the Republic of Buryatia will be the organizers of the event.

Anti-garbage action Clear Shore will become a part of the festivities. Some 500 volunteers will clear up the town embankment and after that their column will go to the Square of the Soviets where the main events of the Day of Lake Baikal will take place.

A chess tournament for participants of different ages, mini-workshops “Baikal Souvenir” where inhabitants of the town will take part in classes of fancywork, work with birch bark and other events are on the program, too. .

Organizers of the event consider formation of a caring attitude to the environment and to one of the greatest creations of the nature – Lake Baikal as central tasks of the holiday. It is necessary to draw attention of the public to the Baikal’s problems, Boris Danilov, director of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal, said.

“Our planet is so little and fragile. So the ecological conscience should be formed from the childhood. People should learn to clear up”, M. Slipenchuk, chairman of the Guardianship Board of the Fund, said.

The Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal considers popularization of the Day of Baikal and support of ecological initiatives as its important task.
