Flag of Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal at Wrangel Island

At the end of August and beginning of September 2011 the Head of METROPOL Group M.V.Slipenchuk participated in an International research expedition to Wrangel Island in the Arctic Ocean.

The expedition was funded by the famour polar explorer, the Chairman of the Board at Ferring Pharmaceuticals (Switzerland) and the Russian Honorary Consul in Lausanne Frederick Paulsen.

Russian scientists from the Arctic and Antarctic Institute also participated in this expedition.

The expedition carried out comprehensive meteorological, radiometric, thermobalance and oceanologic research. They also studied the environment of Wrangel Island and conducted a paleonthological survey of the island which is generally believed to be the last habitat of woolly mammoths.
