The first shift in the camp of the International Baikal Shore Volunteer Service has been finished

During ten days 47 volunteers collected 1,288,120-liter bags of garbage, including 358 bags of glass, 236 bags of plastic, 122 bags of tin, 572 bags of mixed waste.

The extensive work to clean up the shoreline of Lake Baikal near the village Sakhaya (Kabanskiy district of Buryatia) has been done. In addition to the “fresh” garbage left by tourists this year, the waste left during previous years has been excavated and sorted.

Currently, the second shift of the camp has started to work. In addition to actual work on cleaning of the coast, which lasts 6 hours each day, the volunteers conduct propaganda raids, organize environmental lectures, seminars, trainings and workshops.

Environmental project on the organization of the camp of the International Baikal Shore Volunteer Services is supported by the Autonomous non-profit organization “Youth Art Theatre, Ulan-Ude”, team “Save Baikal”, the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal, the United Nations Development Program, the Ministry of Natural Resources of Buryatia.
