On 18 January in the Central House of Artists (Moscow) the VII Moscow International Festival of Nature “Golden Turtle” which opens the events of the Year of Environment in Russia was started. The opening ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Federation Council V.Matvienko, Head of Ministry of Natural Resources S.Donskoy, First Vice-President of the Russian Geographic Society, a member of the Federation Council, President of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal A.Chilingarov, Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of Moscow A.Kulbachevsky and other officials.
As Sergey Donskoy emphasized in his opening speech “for a short period of time from a bright and extraordinary photographic competition “Golden Turtle” has turned into a public area where there are not indifferent people, those citizens for whom the defense of nature in fact is the purpose of life”. Anton Kulbachevsky in its turn said that the exhibition "is especially useful for residents of large cities, especially children, who “communicate” with the nature in the Internet”.
Then the dignitaries of the ceremony toured the Festival exposition, including a section dedicated to Baikal, represented by the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal, and also a photo exhibition of Olga Kamenskaya “Baikal. Kingdom of water and ice”. After examining the exposure of the Fund, Valentina Matvienko noted undeniable and significant contribution of non-profit organizations, in particular of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal, to the popularization of environmental awareness and promotion of the environmental projects. President of the Fund Arthur Chilingarov and Vice-President of the Fund Bair Tsyrenov assured that in the future the Fund will make every effort to implement projects aimed at preserving Lake Baikal, including in partnership with the Russian Geographical Society. Then a collection “Planet Baikal” was presented to the honored guests of the Festival.
VII Moscow International Festival of Nature “Golden Turtle" will run from 19 January to 17 February 2013. On February 3 within the framework of the Festival there will be held “Baikal Day” which is organized at the initiative and with the participation of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal.
