22.07.2011

The Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal will hold a final press conference at 5.00 p.m. on 25 July, 2011 dedicated to first experimental season of the Khakusy ecocamp.

The Khakusy ecoproject was created by the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal (FPLB) for ecological monitoring of the unique Khakusy area, ecological and geographic justification of tourist activities at Baikal and practical significance of nature conservation at the Baikal Lake tourist area.

From 11 July to 23 July, 2001, in Khakusy on the Baikal shore, geography students and teachers from higher education institutions of Ulan-Ude and Irkutsk completed a complex ecological evaluation of the Khakusy area, developed ecoroutes along the Baikal shores, cleared paths and arranged locations for tourist camps and safe fire pits. The Khakusy camp has become the first student ecological station which provided practical training for future ecologists and implemented advanced nature conservation practices in the nature reserve area.

Ecological tourism is actively developing all over the world as the most environmentally friendly environment exploitation means at nature reservations with untouched nature.  The creator of the student camp in Khakusy, the FPLB, strives to preserve Lake Baikal and publicize the results of its activity to involve like-minded people in Baikal preservation. Mr Boris Danilov, Director of the FPLB, and teachers who developed the program and all events of the ecocamp, will share their experiences at a press conference in Ulan-Ude and answer all questions of the press.
