Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal participated in Sagaalgan celebration in Moscow

On 1 February, 2014 the 25th celebrations of the Buddhist New Year, the White holiday month – Sagaalgan, took place in the Big Concert Hall “Academic” in Moscow. The event was organized by the Plenipotentiary Representation of the Republic of Buryatia to the Russian President, the Department of inter-regional cooperation, national policies and relations with religious Organizations of Moscow and the society of the Buryat culture in Moscow “Uryaal” supported by the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal.

The holiday of White months Sagaalgan, dates back to ancient national and religious traditions of the Mongolian people. It is a symbol of renewal of man and nature, openness and purity of thought, hope and good expectations. In our country, it is traditionally celebrated in Buryatia, Trans-Baikal Territory, the Irkutsk region, Tuva and Kalmykia.

For the guests an extensive program was prepared: a presentation of the Buryat circus, a concert of the Buryat scene masters, tasting of the Buryat national cuisine as well as exhibition-fair of arts and crafts and handicrafts. The photo exhibition “Ultralight breakthrough”, provided by the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal, was a big success. The exposition wass devoted to the International Russian-Swiss scientific and practical expedition “Trans-Eurasian flight “Leman-Baikal”, the first season of which was held in the summer of 2013.
