06.03.2013

According to the results of the Circum-Baikal expedition in 2012, organized by the RGS and FPLB, several exhibitions have successfully passed in Vladivostok. In particular, on 28 January 2013 the first of the planned exhibition cycle “Baikal - 2012. Point of no return” opened at the APEC summit. The exhibition was visited by six delegations of the Asia-Pacific region’s counties, as well as our country’s leadership headed by V. Putin.
Next exhibition started on February 14, 2013 in Vladivostok at the House of Navy Officers. The opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Vladivostok Igor Pushkarev, who heads the board of trustees of Primorskiy branch of the Russian Geographical Society and supports the expedition. The head of the city congratulated Sergey Sablin, the expedition leader, and said: “We are proud that our fellow countrymen, Vladivostok’s residents, undertook a massive journey and did what wasn’t done already for 135 years after the expedition of Ivan Cherskiy”.

Note
In June-August 2012, the scientific expedition of the Primorskiy branch of the Russian Geographical Society and the Far East Expeditionary Center “White Dragon” under the leadership of Sergey Sablin took place with the organizational and financial support of the Fund for Protection of Lake Baikal. During three months of the project the participants of the expedition went on foot or by water around the lake more than two thousand kilometers. One of the main tasks of the researchers was to fix the Baikal watercourses: the exact number of rivers flowing into the lake, keys, springs for 2012 is 297. This discovery is of great scientific interest for the study of the Baikal natural territory, as previously it was thought that 336 watercourses flow into the lake.
